Piano Terra Ceramiche: Shop and workshop booking

We built the Shopify store of Piano Terra Ceramiche, a one-person handmade ceramics studio in Parma, from scratch: a shop for its handmade pieces and a booking flow for its pottery workshops and events, by date and time slot.

The brief

Piano Terra is a small ground-floor studio near the Duomo of Parma, at the foot of a Japanese maple, and the name also says how the work is done: "piano", slowly, with the clay. Every vase, cup and candlestick is shaped, painted and glazed by hand in that room. The studio sells two things that rarely share a store. One is objects, all different, for the table and the home. The other is time at the wheel: workshops where people make their own mug or breakfast set, which the studio then fires, glazes and fires again before they can take it home. The brief: one store that carries the calm of the studio, sells the pieces like any shop, and turns a class with a fixed date, a limited number of seats and a pickup weeks later into something people can book and pay for online.

What we did

  • Store from scratch

The store designed and built on Shopify, with a home that tells the studio's story as a sequence of images, from the courtyard and the maple to the wheel and the music that is almost always playing.

  • Handmade catalog

About sixty pieces in four collections, for the table, vases, candlesticks and candles, and special objects, from small cups to large vases.

  • Workshop booking

On workshop pages the add-to-cart button gives way to a booking calendar: the visitor picks a date, then a time slot, leaves a name and an email, and the booked slot goes to the cart to be paid at checkout. Each workshop has its own calendar of dates.

  • Clear rules for a class

The confirmation states that the date can be changed up to 36 hours before the workshop, and the product page explains that materials and firings are included and the pieces are ready for pickup about two to three weeks after the class.

The result

Piano Terra Ceramiche sells its handmade pieces and takes bookings for its workshops from one Shopify store that feels like the studio it comes from.
